A search for other works published by Wessex Military Publishing finds only this series, suggesting that the company was created by Mr Chappell as a private venture. The books are staple-bound and each comprise 24 pages packed with informative text and photographs displaying features of uniform and weaponry. The standout feature of each book is the four full-page colour plates which display to full effect the author’s encyclopaedic knowledge of his subject and his superlative skill as an artist. His figures are posed naturally, the colours are vivid and the detail of equipment, insignia and weapons is impressive.
